Synopsis
The film is about the childhood and adolescence of a young Iranian, Marjane. When she is 9, The Islamic Revolution imposes the veil on women, send thousands of people to prison and starts a war against Iraq. In the rest of the world young people, as do the young Iranians in secret, discover punk music and hard rock. At 14, Marjane is courageous and rebellious. Her parents, worry about her safety therefore send her to study in Austria. There the girl fights against teenage pain and European prejudice. After high school, Marjane has some friends but she feels really lonely so she goes back home to her family. After a first period of difficulty she enters Art School, she marries and goes on to protest against the Regime. At 24 Marjane, even though she feels really Iranian, she can’t stand to live in her country and goes to France, looking for a new life.
