TRIGGER

Category: Edition 2007

Synopsis

Alise, 11 year-old, is the world’s biggest coward. But her real troubles begin when a wild horse crashes onto the neighbourhood’s basketball court. Alise’s best friend, as well as all the other children, expect Alise to catch and calm the horse. They believe that Alise knows all there is to know about horses; that she’s an expert rider coaxing horses into taking enormous hurdles. But there’s a catch, and a big one: Alise has lied about everything. And she’s terrified of horses. There was a time when Alise’s grandfather was an adept horseman who really knew all there was to know about horses. But that was long ago, before he had become an angry old grouch. But none of that is important any more because the owner decides to kill the horse. Alise has to conquer her deepest fears for the sake of saving a doomed horse.

Director’s statement

“TRIGGER is an inspiring adventure film about a child who discovers unsuspected strengths while struggling against evil forces. But my true motivation in making TRIGGER was to create a film which lends us support in times of great loss, a film which helps us cope with the unfathomable death of a loved one. I am certain many of us take comfort in knowing that when someone close to us dies, their spirit remains with us, guiding us. And, finally, it is our heroine Alise’s acknowledgement of this which brings her, and brought to me, strength and comfort”.
