Synopsis
Nine-year old Bonnie lives with her mother Lis and her grandmother. Lis is an unusual mother. Sometimes she is very lively, but she can be very gloomy too. Luckily grandma looks after things. But when grandma dies in an accident, everything changes. Lis is incapable of taking care of herself and Bonnie. A social assistant checks on them: if things don’t change Bonnie will be taken away. The girl has to do something. She thinks that maybe to have a boyfriend and a new child could help her. So she tries to find a boyfriend for Lis. When Lis starts dating Cees, things seem to go better. But Cees and Lis break up and the woman falls into her depression again. One day Lis brings a very special gift home: an elephant, Bonny’s favourite animal. The girl is happy but at the same time she knows very well that if the social assistant finds the stolen elephant in the garden she will separate her and her mother forever.
