CHANGING DESTINY

Category: Edition 2005

Synopsis

Alessandro, 15 years old, lives in a post-industrial environment with his mother Adele, an ex teenage-mother with mental problems, who is trying hard to lead a normal life without much success. Alessandro has never met his father and has only two friends, Toni and Ferdi, with whom he roams about on the outskirts of town. All of a sudden Toni disappears, and Alessandro is now alone with Ferdi. Ferdi is also in a difficult family situation. His father is an alcoholic who suffers from an illness he got at the factory in which he works. The kid commits suicide jumping of the roof of an unfinished building with his moped. Alessandro is now alone with his anger and, in a desperate moment, burns the house where two old family friends had lived before being driven out. He, therefore, ends up at the local house of correction where he has time to think about an alternative life.

Director’s statement

“CHANGING DESTINY is a story of suburbia; urban suburbia and suburbia of the soul. This is the physical and mental space, the existential limbo in which the two main characters are immersed. Alessandro and Ferdi try to find a space of their own, their own place in the world, an oasis among the ruins that are not only those of the gloomy factories; but also the grounds of their own families”.
