Synopsis
Annarella a very poor Neapolitan girl of 10 years gets up in the middle of the night and looks at the faces distorted by the misery of the father, the mother, the little brother and the aunt. The morning after the mother leaves to support a heavy purchase much criticized by neighbors for whom the world is too disgusting and Annarella is lucky to be 'almost blind'. But she remembers the glossy world of the eyewear store and eagerly awaits her mother. When Donna Rosa returns with a pair of glasses, Annarella holds them with trembling hands and reality explodes before her eyes. The cracked courtyard walls, the falling balconies, the chubby figures move towards her to grab her. The girl begins to vomit and her discomfort stops only when she takes off her glasses. The following night Annarella will throw them in a manhole and while the glasses sink a red stream of blood descends on its thin legs marking the end of childhood and entry into the fruitful age.
