Ann Hui On-Wah (Anshan, May 23, 1947) is a Chinese director from Hong Kong born of a Chinese father and a Japanese mother. She is one of the most acclaimed directors in the new wave scene in Hong Kong.
His family moved to Macao, and then to Hong Kong when she was only five years old. Ann studied at St. Paul's Convent School. He studied English and comparative literature at the University of Hong Kong until 1972, when he received his master's degree, before spending two years at the London International Film School. He returned to Hong Kong in 1975, and entered the TVB station as a director, directing several 16-mm television series and documentaries. During this period, it is worth mentioning in particular the role he has held as an assistant to King Hu. The most important feature he produced in this period was Boy From Vietnam (1978), his first film on Vietnam, as well as the first part of his "Vietnamese trilogy".
