Giannino notes and illustrates in a diary his daily and endless pranks, performed everywhere, in the city and in the countryside, against sisters, unpleasant companions and stiff professors.

Born in Rome but of Abruzzo origins, he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome attending Toti Scialoja's set design course. He started working as a graphic artist, painter and set designer. After the experience with the filmmakers of Fax Film Kremos and Gibba, he is interested in experimental cinema and animation. Between 1957 and 1959 he made some experiments on animated films, painted directly on the film.
In 1960 he moved to England and collaborated with the National Film Board directed by George Dunning, the director of Yellow Submarine, and with the broadcaster T.V. Cartoons. Since 1962 he has worked for the FAO producing short films for the United States of America.
In 1970 he created for the German broadcaster ZDF The comic poem, based on Dino Buzzati's drawings and with the collaboration directed by the same. He collaborates with Giulio Gianini and Emanuele Luzzati's studio for some animated short films. He also made numerous short films and animated shorts for Rai, collaborating, among other projects, also for the 1966 - 1968 season of Carosello, directed by Harry Hess. In 1978 he made the film La nascita del Cinema - Overview on the history of cinema from the Lanterna Magica to Méliès (distributed in 1980), the Quality Award of the Ministry of Entertainment.
In the '80s he made some animation works based on famous classical music compositions such as The Story of the Nutcracker by Pëtr Il'ič Čajkovskij and The Firebird by Igor' Fëdorovič Stravinsky. He also directs The General in Hell, based on a poem by Pablo Neruda.
In 1991 he made the feature film Il giornalino di Gian Burrasca, based on the work of Vamba. The film inaugurates the 1992 edition of the Trevisocartoon festival.
