Synopsis
A young French woman returns to the vast silence of West Africa to contemplate her childhood days in a colonial outpost in Cameroon. Her strongest memories are of the family's houseboy, Protee - a man of great nobility, intelligence and beauty - and the intricate nature of relationships in a racist society.

Claire Denis is a French director, screenwriter and actress famous for her study of the human condition with its intercultural tensions and family conflicts.
Born in Paris on April 21, 1948, but grew up in Africa up to 13 years. She graduated in 1972 from IDHEC, the French school of cinema and first worked as an assistant to Jacques Rivette, Costa-Gavras, Jim Jarmusch and Wim Wenders. Her debut film Chocolat (1988), a reflection on colonialism, has won criticism.
