VICTOR ERICE
Víctor Erice (Valle de Carranza, 30 June 1940) is a Spanish director and screenwriter.
Erice studied law, political science and economics at the University of Madrid before joining the Escuela Oficial de Cinematografia to study film directing.
He writes about the magazine Nuestro Cine, makes a series of short films and directs an episode of the collective film Los desafíos (1969), before making his feature film debut in 1973, with The Spirit of the Hive (El espíritu de la colmena), film set in the rural Spain of the forties, which is presented in the International Critics Week of the Cannes Film Festival in 1974, wins the Concha d'oro for the best film at the San Sebastian Festival and receives three awards (best film, director and actor) from the Círculo de Escritores Cinematográficos.
Despite the success of his first film, which immediately became a cult object in the cineclubs and festivals, ten years passed before Erice made his second opera, El sur, presented in competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 1983.
