ANNA, CIRO... & CO.: THE FURNACE

Category: Edition 1982

Synopsis
Three Roman pre-teenagers grappling with small and big daily problems, which in some cases cause them to improvise detectives and get into trouble. The style is very different from the stereotypical one of the sit-com for boys, as the young actors are shot especially in exteriors and left to act in a very direct, spontaneous and, therefore, more credible.

Son of the director and producer Carlo Caiano, after graduating in Classical Literature and Archeology at the beginning of the fifties he began working as an archaeologist. His true passion, however, is the cinema, whose environments he began to frequent when he was still a student and who does not resign himself to abandoning even after graduation and first job. In his spare time he works as a scriptwriter and in some cases as an assistant director. Between 1952 and 1960 he gradually abandoned the position at the Superintendency and ended up working full time in the cinema. His debut as a director takes place in 1960 with the film Ulisse contro Ercole, a peplum of which he is also responsible for the subject and screenplay. From that moment began to shoot several successful commercial films that make it one of the most appreciated directors and screenwriters of the Italian genre.
In 1963 he directed, together with Ricardo Blasco, the film Duel in Texas, considered one of the founders of spaghetti-western. A year later, in 1964, Caiano directs the film "twin" of the most noble For a handful of dollars, entitled The guns do not argue.
In 1970 he started working for RAI, writing and directing several successful TV series, including the Yellow evening television series. He was also the author of documentaries such as "Dalai Lama, ocean of wisdom" and "The Neapolitan crib", aired by RAI. In 1977 he shot the erotic film The Swastika in the Belly.
Among the films directed by Caiano also The Tales of Viterbury - The most entertaining stories of '300 in 1973. Caiano directed the film under the pseudonym Edoardo Re: in a television interview, the Roman director justified himself by justifying a little modesty he made him choose, at the signing of the contract, the name of the saint of that day, which was precisely San Edoardo Re (October 13).
