Synopsis
The last of Jannik Hastrups three cartoon films about the history of the subclassed subclass in the Nordic countries throughout the ages. The first two were the "Trællene" (1978) and "The Rebel of the Tribes" (1979).
The first of the movie's three single episodes takes place in 1633, when the war is raging in Europe. The orphan, unmarried girl Credentia, working on a paper mill, violates church and state by giving birth to a child. She is burned on the fire while the child's father, the leader of the paper mill, receives a fine of 40 rigsdaler. The second episode takes place in Christmas in 1742. Two poor children are arrested for begging and are forced into forced labor in the city's spinning house. However, they manage to escape, but their future is only hard work within the newly created textile industry. The third episode takes place in 1860. The sixteen-year-old Kristine gets to work with a midwife after being raped by a rich manufacturer, with whom she was employed as a nanny. It appears that the midwife operates an "angel factory" that brings unwanted newborns off the road, after which Kristine prefers a poorer paid but honorable job.
