Synopsis
The film describes the first journey of H.C. Andersen in Italy during which he found inspiration for the novel "The Improviser" which for the first time brought him success. The stay in Italy had great importance for its inner development. It was during this stay that he wrote: "If I leave Naples as a virgin I will remain virgin forever". The film explains why Andersen never married. The film contains two fairy tales: a humor set in Denmark "What father is always well done" and a romantic set in Naples "Pulcinella". The film in the beginning contains a description of Gianni Rodari's fairy tales.
