Synopsis
On a country farm live Scricchiolo, a child about six years old, and his family. Crackle, to protect his dog Sausage that his father would like to sell, he decides to escape with the animal. After a long wanderings, he reaches the sea for the first time in his life. Here he meets three boys: Roberto, Maria Vera and Mezzalingua. The first two are very rich brother and sister, while the third is the son of a fisherman. The three fraternize with Scricchiolo and decide to take a ride off with the sailboat of Roberto's father. Lying on the high seas because of a sudden calm, they fall asleep and wake up at dawn with the boat stranded among the rocks of an island. The next day, three shabby men come to the island with a rowboat. They present themselves as fishermen but in reality they are escapists. Among the boys and newcomers, however, a current of sympathy is established, especially between Scricchiolo and one of the three, nicknamed "the Professor". All together they leave on the boat to the continent. Once on the coast everyone goes on his way, but Scricchiolo and "the Professor" remain together. During the journey, he steals rubbing clothes to give them to his friend, but "the Professor" makes him understand that he should not be stolen. So he takes the boy back to his family. For Scricchiolo it is a disappointment, as he would like to stay with his friend. But this is not possible and, after an affectionate farewell, Scricchiolo returns home, followed by his dog.

Ernesto Guida (born September 12, 1926 in Naples) is an Italian screenwriter and film director.
Even as a high school student Guida was involved as a volunteer assistant director for Gennaro Righelli in the Storia di una capinera, where he continued to work in this function even after the end of World War II. Mainly, however, he worked in these years as a senior editor of the journals "Anteprima" and "Politeama". From 1950 strengthened his commitment as an assistant director, now u. a. for Giacomo Gentilomo and Mario Bonnard. Five years later he wrote a first screenplay; a few more followed for films of various genres. The most interesting among them were created for director Giuseppe Maria Scotese. In 1968 he directed Un amico, the story of a friendship between a child and an adult. After an interlude on television, for which he had occasionally worked earlier, his film Il segreto dell'uomo solitaio was performed twenty years after his directing debut at the Salerno Film Festival, which then ran in only a few cinemas.
