MUSIC: ANDREA BOCELLI TO RECEIVE THE TRUFFAUT AWARD

The tenor will meet 1000 young people from all over the world at the Giffoni Film Festival

Andrea Bocelli will receive the Truffaut Award in Giffoni on July 20th. The prestigious award, bestowed over the years to the biggest names in the international scene (such as Julianne Moore, Alan Rickman, Mika, Eddie Redmayne, Amy Adams, Samuel L. Jackson, Roberto Saviano, Bryan Cranston, Richard Gere), will be presented to the tenor in a meeting with almost 1000 teenagers between 13 and 18 years old coming from 52 different countries, young jurors of the most important youth cinema event ever. The invitation for the 48th edition of the Festival started right from these teenagers, who, through a survey, indicated the artist as the Italian musical artist whom they most dreamed of meeting. And the tenor will not let them down. A legend of international music, Bocelli (85 million albums sold) has sung for Heads of State and Government, Popes, Presidents, Royal Families, at Olympic Games ceremonies, performing in events that range from the Shanghai Expo to the interpretation of the Hymn of the 2015 Milan Expo. His career is studded with a long list of awards, starting with the victory at the Sanremo Festival (with “Il Mare Calmo Della Sera”) and going on with many others such as the World Music award, Latin Grammy award, Classical Brit award and ECHO award. The tenor was also nominated Gran Cavaliere della Repubblica Italiana in 2006 and was honored with a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2010. Winner of a Golden Globe, he was also a nominee for the Academy Award for Best Original Song with “The Prayer”, his duet with Celine Dion. Bocelli, who, on September 8th, will be at the Arena di Verona for a great concert with the biggest names in the world lyric, will also tell the jurors about the birth of his passion for the opera. After the release of his album “Cinema” in 2015, dedicated to the most beautiful soundtracks of all time, he is awaited on October 26th with the release of his new record, “Sì” (Sugar), the first album of unpublished pieces after 14 years from the previous “Andrea”.
