CLASSIC

Today approaching its 10th year of age, Masterclass Classic,  is the first, historic, section, reserved for the young people that wish to explore the themes of cinema, television, art and culture. Created as a bridge to accompany the most promising and motivated giffoners to the world of work, it has effectively marked the final passage of Giffoni from 'event' Festival to Experience, an active cultural factory all throughout the year, in Italy and in the world. Nine days of meetings dedicated to research on the audiovisual professions with people who actively work in the field. It starts Friday July 20th, with Italian screenwriter, actor and Director ANDREA JUBLIN, with whom the children will have the opportunity to explore the many facets of audiovisual creation, though a fascinating overview. Saturday, July 21st, the masterclasser will discuss the phenomenon ‘Napoli Velata’ with FERZAN ÖZPETEK, who has remarkably narrated the magic, mystery and passion of a city, making it the beating heart of his latest work; the narrative between cinema, literature and tv is also at the centre of the second meeting of the day, with writer GUIDO SGARDOLI, already three times winner of the prestigious Andersen Award for best book, obtained in 2018 with ‘L’isola del muto’. Sunday, July 22nd  authorship and interpretation are the common thread of the three scheduled meetings with actor BRANDO DE SICA, who introduces himself to the giffoners in his new role as a director with his first short, 'Aria'; with FRANCESCO SCIANNA the nuances of the acting will be explored, starting from the film 'Itaker', directed by Toni Trupia, which earned him a nomination for the ‘Nastro D’Argento’ for best actor.  Closing the day will be FRANK MATANO, with whom the children discuss comedy in its variations on the web, cinema and tv. The morning of Tuesday, July 24th, will start with ‘DEI’ by Director COSIMO TERLIZZI, a thrilling tale of training which he brought to the big screen, co-produced by Valeria Golino and Riccardo Scamarcio, and at the Festival with the young protagonists of his film, ANDREA ARCANGELI and LUIGI CATANI; the day continues with DANILO IERVOLINO to present the advanced course on directing and Acting and the Pegaso Telematic University and culminates with the brilliant and surreal creativity of MACCIO CAPATONDA. The last day, Saturday July 28th, is all for FICARRA & PICONE, the multifaceted comic duo capable of ranging successfully between film, tv and theatre. But the surprises never end at the Festival, as well as the desire to offer something more to the giffoners.

TALK

Dedicated to current events, Masterclass Talk hosts prominent cultural and institutional figures to talk about Democracy, Economics and Politics in order to stimulate the formation of a civil and social conscience that can establish a real connection between those who manage the State, and those who will inherit it one day. A series of meetings, reserved to 100 masterclassers from age 18 to 34, which  will also include exponents of the Italian cultural and artistic scene and which aim to feed the debate on the hottest topics in contemporary social and political agenda and to deal together with the current Italian ruling class, topics and values that have always been very important to Giffoni like inclusion, acceptance, the beauty of exchange and the centrality of culture as an essential tool for individual and community development, but also technological and environmental innovation, educational strategies, the new frontiers of the national and international economy. The Talk section thus becomes a meeting point between Politics, Culture, Economics, Education, Industry, an ideal 'think tank' on the future of young generations and Italian and international society. To start the ball rolling the President of the Campania Region VINCENZO DE LUCA, that will talk about all the initiatives put in place by the region on the work front, youth training, cultural investment, territorial  and tourism development strategies, with an eye on the younger people and on culture, a driver of economic expansion and international success. While remaining within the framework of territorial planning, growth opportunities and the good strategies employed  in specific sectors, such as education promoted by the Giffoni Experience, are the focus of the meeting with the Secretary for Equal Opportunities and youth training in the Campania Region, CHIARA MARCIANI. Instead LUCA CASCONE,  Chair of the Mobility  Commission of the Campania Region, will outline the new features in terms of Smart Mobility, sustainable transportation, innovative services and initiatives to support student mobility and the right to education. To complete the survey on the policies put in place by the Regional Councillor, for the Youth and Social Policies of the Campania Region LUCIA FORTINI and the council member for Startups, Innovation and Internationalisation of the Campania Region VALERIA FASCIONE, with whom there will be the possibility to talk and debate, inter alia, on the centrality of the school as an instrument of individual and communal development and as an ideal incubator for experimental initiatives in occasion of the School Factory Day promoted by Giffoni 2018. Regional policies fit into the framework of the Europe of the regions and of the wider national policy strategies: so the debate planned with government officials expected at the 48th Edition of the Giffoni Film Festival, is fundamental and of extraordinary prestige . Commitment to the future of youth will be the heart of the intervention of ROBERTO FICO, President of the Chamber of Deputies. LUIGI DI MAIO, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for economic development and labour, will return once again to Giffoni to debate, discuss and answer all the questions of the diverse audience of Giffoni. The experience  of Giffoni is a concrete example of culture that becomes professional, civic and social development and this will be a topic to analyse with the Minister of cultural heritage and tourism ALBERTO BONISOLI, as well as the very interesting testimony to the new Minister of the environment SERGIO COSTA, strongly active in investigating unlawful disposal of toxic waste in the so-called land of Fires, as Commander of Region Campania of the Carabinieri Forestali and now leading an increasingly strategic Department for the economic development of Western countries. To meet the children in Giffoni and provide a broad and articulated overview on several strategic initiatives made by the Government, the State Secretary for the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Equal Oportunities and Youth VINCENZO SPADAFORA. The political guidelines are intertwined with daily initiatives on the territory of those who work in defence of legality, even on environmental and ecological front: exemplary, in this sense, is the testimony of the Prosecutor of Catanzaro NICOLA GRATTERI,  who stands in the line of fire against the ' Ndrangheta and the growing interest of eco and agro-mafias, increasingly spread in the territories and in the economic life of the country.  With the President of Confindustria, VINCENZO BOCCIA it will be possible to analyse the new formulas and the latest sustainable entrepreneurship measures and circular economy, while the Rector of the University of Salerno AURELIO TOMMASETTI will represent the challenges and the achievements of higher education, the difficulties of scientific research and the centrality of the Academy in the definition of development policies of the territory.  To the more strictly political and institutional interventions will alternate cultural talks, which will space between the current role of journalism in the account of current affairs, addressed by Director of Tgcom 24 PAOLO LIGUORI, and the continuous responsibility of art divulgation, and arts education with the Director of the Museo MADRE in Naples ANDREA VILIANI and Coordinator College Cinema – Scuola Holden ALESSANDRO AVATANEO. But there are also testimonies from young people for young people: talks about storytelling of reality  and redefining the boundaries of literary genres with EMANUELE CERULLO, class of ' 93, poet, writer, blogger, who has conquered critics and audiences with the collection ' Il ventre di Scampia' (editions Neomediaitalia) and about writing as a sharing activity with ALESSIA DE FILIPPO, 24-year-old blogger who tells the daily challenges of those suffering from sclerosis in her 'Lächeln – Sorridi puoi’, born “to give a voice to the voiceless, to minimize things, because life is beautiful!” Among the interventions that will make this masterclass even more precious, a moment for the sports world with VITTORIO BOSIO, Chairman  of the National Italian sports centre (CIS) and GIOVANNI MALAGÒ, President of the National Italian Olympic Committee (Coni). A complete educational path, that looks at the different souls who meet daily in Giffoni Experience and that every summer manifested all their potential at the Film Festival.
