It was just around midday when Domenico and Ida Andria removed the unveiling cloth which concealed the plaque engraved with their father’s name: Carlo Andria. Tears streamed down their face as the applause got louder becoming the tightest of the hugs. Multimedia Valley conference hall has been officially named after Carlo Andria, president emeritus of Giffoni. He passed away in June losing his battle against a long-term illness. A milestone for the Festival and for the whole community of the Picentini hamlet. Andria served three terms as mayor, becoming a pivotal figure for local culture and community for his dedication and respect towards institutions, kindness of heart and empathy. “Carlo was a friend and a brother to me” said in deep commotion Claudio Gubitosi, founder and director of Giffoni Film Festival. President of independent agency Giffoni Experience Pietro Rinaldi was visibly touched too: “Carlo was a second father to me. I attended school together with his son Domenico, I often visited his home, it felt like family. There’s him in every move I make, every decision I make for the Festival and it will always and forever be like this”.
