Films in competition on July 23rd

The hope for a better life is the prevailing theme of the third day of the Festival. At 10am at Sala Truffaut, HER NAME WAS JO (USA 2021), directed by Joe Duca, dedicated to the children of Generator +13: Jo can't live like this any longer: a drunk and violent stepfather makes her youth very difficult. Luckily she has Selma, her best friend, to help her finally look for her biological father. In the Sala Alberto Sordi, at 10 am and again at 2.30 pm, Elements +10 will screen MY DAD IS A SAUSAGE (Belgium, The Netherlands 2021) directed by Anouk Fortunier: Paul wants to change his life! Is it a mid-life crisis? But he wants to become an actor and, after a series of funny and laugh-out-loud events, he succeeds in his goal and more. His daughter Zoë is an exceptional accomplice. In the Sala Lumìere at 10 am, repeated also at 2.30 pm, Elements +6 will instead reflect together on a story with a strong emotional impact: COME COME RAIN (India 2020) directed by Shafaq Khan. Islampura has been in a drought for five years, the government and villagers cannot find a solution, considering that what counts in such contexts are religious differences and the resulting conflicts. Fortunately, children are not like adults: will they find the solution to the drought? Sala Truffaut 2.30 p.m. The children of the Generator +16 section will take part in the screening of the film EVERYONE HAS A SUMMER (Poland 2020) directed by Tomasz Jurkiewicz: Agata and Mirek, two teenagers who want to enjoy their summer to the full, discover attraction and sex thanks to the figure of Mirek's grandfather, going against the Catholic and antiquated values of some environments. But... a secret binds them both. For Gex Doc at 2.45pm Sala Galileo I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU (France 2020) directed by Stéphanie Pillonca: Stories of couples, couples who are unable to have children and decide to adopt. With this documentary it will be possible to share with them concerns, hopes, doubts, sufferings but also joys and satisfactions. Finally, at 7.30 p.m. in the Sala Lumìere, for Generator +18, a film set in the 1990s SMALL COUNTRY (Belgium, France 2020) directed by Éric Barbier: We are in Burundi, a normal life for an ordinary child. Suddenly, the outbreak of civil war changes everything.
