Mariastella Gelmini: “Giffoni is an example of resilience for Italy”

She is at home at Giffoni and she had to be here for the fiftieth edition. The Deputy Mariastella Gelmini speaks about the emotions she feels for the fiftieth edition of the Festival, which happened despite the current situation. “It is an extraordinary edition that I could not miss, an edition that should not be taken for granted after the lockdown, with a great symbolic value, an evidence of restart, resilience of our nation and of Southern Italy”.

The director Claudio Gubitosi, the vice Mayor of Giffoni Valle Piana, Antonio Andria, the president of Ente Autonomo Giffoni Experience, Pietro Rinaldi, welcomed her at Cittadella del Cinema. “As the director Gubitosi said - the Deputy Gelmini said - Giffoni is not to be celebrated, it is to be lived and I am here to live it. Obviously, the context is complex but I can see that everything has been organised in total safety”.

Italy restarts and so does school: “I am in Giffoni - the deputee continued - and therefore I want to be optimistic. As a matter of fact I believe that we will be able to start again this year, thanks to teachers, headmasters and the professionalism and enthusiasm of everyone working at school”. Maria Stella Gelmini’s speech is followed by the documentary dedicated to the fifty years of Giffoni, screened at Sala Verde. Eventually there were the final greetings of the young participants of Giffoni Impact at Sala Blu.
