“Giffoni lays the foundation for the community of the future. Here the seed of a better humanity generates. Invent, make plans. Preserve the spirit, the energy and the enthusiasm you breathe in this place. From today Giffoni is not a town or a festival to me, it is the present participle of a new verb, Giffoning, because everything is in the process of becoming”. Erri De Luca, writer, journalist, poet and translator, charmed the audience in sala blu of Cittadella del cinema. He talked about his relationship with writing and the beginning of his career, without eluding the many questions asked by the giffoners, starting from the relationship between man and nature, a topic he was heavily involved in also in the national debate during the pandemic. He also talked about the role of young people, the fragilities of mankind and the adolescence contradictions. At the end of the meeting, he was awarded a prize from the founder and director of Giffoni Opportunity Claudio Gubitosi, a prize that he decided to donate to Giulio Regeni’s family. “Erri has given us the privilege of emotions”, Gubitosi commented, offering him a collection of prints which gather the main steps of the first fifty years of the Festival.
