Skam Italian at #Giffoni50: the revolutionary series that speaks about young people truthfully

A secondary school in Rome, sunny days and lightheartedness, rain and uncertainty, a generation that does not give up and freedom of being, simply: Skam Italia is true life, a picture of the reality which has become the authentic image of young people constantly searching for happiness. At #Giffoni50 It goes straight to the heart because the beautiful picture of youth convinces the giffoners. Observing, scanning, seeing and then looking in order to tell both the rainbow and the storms that try to cloud the real essence of an adolescence spent among questions and insecurities.

The series, created by Bessegato and produced by Cross Productions - TIMVISION, takes life from the homonym Norwegian version of 2015. Realistic dialogues, immersed into realistic experiences with a special sensitivity, from sexuality to racism passing through addiction and fragility: in the Italian version as well a slice of life, a mosaic of experiences to witness firsthand what is real and not what appears to be.

“We need to explore further - said the creator and director Ludovico Bessegato, accompanied by the protagonists Beatrice Bruschi, Ibrahim Keshk and Pietro Turano - we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. There is a need for confrontation, knowledge, an insight free from prejudice. Skam is a story of truth, sometimes things are more complex than they seem and we need to stop for a second and look closely. “Everybody should spend more time with young people - Bessegato continued - . We met many young people in order to create these stories, knowing things helps make them true and that is why the analysis and observation phases have been fundamental. Over time I have always let the interpreters have their space, I wanted them to fully embrace the words and the moments we would tell. Only then we could obtain a completely vibrant tale, an entirely true one.

And Bessegato knows well that Giffoni has always listened and understood young people: “In this place there is exactly what they need. Breathe - he said to the giffoners -. Make yourselves understood, let other people get to know you. In every Skam character, for example, there’s something of myself and the most surprising thing has been managing to get to many adults, who have started looking at the world of young people, a world which has always been criticised, in a new light.
