School Experience: Miur and Mibact together for the second edition of the itinerant festival promoted by Giffoni

The initiative is part of the National Plan of cinema for schools. Registration is opne from Monday March 9 to September 15

Cinema as a glance at the world, a moment of reflection at school for students and teachers, a tool to carry out a critical reading of our time: from the first day of life Giffoni entered the classrooms and schools with many projects reserved for training, personal growth and dialogue. Today that commitment is strengthened and reconfirms the desire to continue a path started 50 years ago: the second edition of School Experience, the itinerant festival created within the National Cinema Plan for Schools and promoted by MIUR set to start in October MIBACT. The event in its first edition - from October to December 2019 - involved over 10,000 students and 1,500 teachers from four Italian regions (Veneto, Calabria, Sardinia and Sicily).

We have a responsibility to focus on young people and give them beauty - explains the director of Giffoni Opportunity, Claudio Gubitosi - I get angry every day because our regions have enormous potential that are not always valued to the best of their ability. The goal of School Experience is to network local realities against emptiness, fear and bewilderment. Mibact's commitment to supporting cinema in schools, in collaboration with the MIUR, is in its second year and many schools have joined the initiative, distinguishing themselves with their projects. Giffoni is proud to have suggested and urged the collaboration between the two departments for some time. We have chosen to intervene with great determination, aware of our history, creating a real festival that will touch three regions of Italy and involve thousands of teachers and students ".

An idea born to meet the needs and expectations of young people - aged 6 to 18 - from all over the country, with particular attention to the suburbs, their identity and potential. The second edition of the itinerant Festival will see three events throughout the national territory: from 20 to 23 October in Basilicata (Terranova di Pollino, Senise, Sant'Arcangelo), from 27 to 30 October in Sicily (Palermo) and from 9 to 14 November in Campania, where the project will end with a final event of great intensity and content, hosted in the Multimedia Valley and in the Citadel of Cinema in Giffoni Valle Piana.

The program includes a competition dedicated to feature films (Feature Experience) and short films (Short Experience) made by Italian and foreign professionals, as well as a competition dedicated to works produced by schools or cultural associations divided by age group: Your Experience +3 (these are national productions aimed at students, from 3 to 10, proposed by kindergartens, primary or cultural associations), Your Experience +11 (short films in target with children, from 11 to 13 years, created by secondary schools of 1st degree or cultural associations, individual videomakers) and Your Experience +14 (works addressed to students, from 14 to 20 years old, proposed by secondary schools of 2nd degree, cultural associations, individual videomakers). The School Experience Festival Award will be awarded for each section.

Films produced after January 1, 2019 can participate in the competition. Registration is free and online. You can apply from 12:00 on Monday 9 March, until 18:00 on 15 September 2020.
