CINEMA, ART, CULTURE AND FOOD: 4 GIFFONERS IN THE JURY AT THE CROATIAN CHILDREN’S FILM FESTIVAL TELL OF THEIR STORY ON THE ISLAND OF BRAC

Giulia, Federica, Chiara and Clarissa – the latter was the recipient of an award as the most “clever” juror of the event- were chaperoned by the Head of the Jury Office, Natascia De Rosa

The Croatian Children's Film Festival is the only Croatian event dedicated exclusively to films made by students: Once again this year a delegation of our giffoners could not miss it! Giulia De Mattia, Federica Mollo, Chiara Napolitano and Clarissa Rossomando were accompanied by Natascia De Rosa, head of the Ufficio Giurie, on a journey full of cinema and adventure. Thanks to Giffoni Experience Giulia, Federica, Chiara and Clarissa not only attended the screenings, but had the opportunity to visit - in addition to Bol, on the island of Brac - also the city of Split.

"On October 3 the 5 of us met at Naples airport to start this new experience, two of us already knew each other (Fefa and Chiara). We immediately became friends, thanks to Giulia's curiosity. It was the first flight for Clarissa and the anxiety was huge, but the rest of the group was thrilled to go abroad. The catamaran to the island of Brac, where the festival was held, would leave the following afternoon, so we would have spent the evening and a few hours of the day after in Split. We were fascinated by its paved streets, the clear sea, the promenade, the cathedral and its beauty and last but not least, the Diocletian palace.

Once landed in Bol also called the golden horn for its beautiful beach, and after we were all set at the hotel, there was the opening ceremony and the presentation of the first set of shorts in competition, which were produced entirely by various schools in Croatia. After the screenings we met our colleagues, 3 Croatian girls and 2 Slovenes. After each drums of shorts there was a Q & A with the crew of the films and then the meetings with the other jurors. The thing that characterized our stay in Bol was the vision of 89 shorts and the kilometer that divided us from the cinema that we had to go to several times a day, but the tiredness was compensated by the seascape.

Our mentor on this path was Margareta, who guided us with patience and dedication. We greatly appreciated the hospitality and the food but we regretted not being able to fully grasp the closing ceremony as not everything was translated because of the timing. We were also able to distinguish ourselves as a jury thanks to our experience gained at the GFF in particular Clarissa who, with her active participation, was recognized as a "clever" juror. We are honored to have been an integral part of a project that made us 100% participate as jurors and as spectators.

On the 7th, in the  afternoon we returned to the capital where we were able to enjoy two more fantastic days visiting: the fish market, the green market the Marjan park with a breathtaking view and the long beach of Bacvice with crystal clear sea where we allowed ourselves a nice autumn bath. But the thing that we have most appreciated was the cuisine the traditional cevapcici (a kind of sausage) and the burek (rustic pie with cheese typical of the area) and the blini (pancake). We thank the Giffoni Film Festival and the Croatian Children's Film Festival for the unique experience that has given us so many emotions and new friendships. We thank in particular our patient and caring companion Natasha who endured and bared with us during this trip."
