GIFFONI MULTIMEDIA VALLEY TO BE INAUGURATED WITH PRESIDENT OF THE CAMPANIA REGION VINCENZO DE LUCA AND ITALIAN UNDERSECRETARY OF STATE MARIA ELENA BOSCHI

The long-awaited ribbon cutting, in the presence of thousands of youth, civil, military and religious authorities, is set for Thursday 13 July at 10.30, on the eve of the Giffoni Film Festival 47th edition.

Conceived as an area entirely dedicated to creativity and culture in southern Italy, Giffoni Multimedia Valley is ready to welcome startups and young visionaries, in order to boost their entrepreneurship. The first lot of this innovative space, dedicated to “cultural entertainment” and audiovisual productions, will be inaugurated on Thursday 13 July at 10.30 by President of the Campania Region Vincenzo De Luca, Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Italian Council, Maria Elena Boschi, Giffoni Experience Chairman Piero Rinaldi and Director Claudio Gubitosi.

Giffoni Multimedia Valley, covering an area of approximately 45,000 square meters, includes a Regional Media Library, a Witnesses of Time Museum, two technologically advanced screening rooms, a conference room for different activities, new offices and parking areas. Director Claudio Gubitosi’s intuition, tenaciousness and hard work have made possible the fulfilment of what had started out as a mere idea, expanding the original Festival experience into a wide series of activities spread throughout the year. No doubt, it is a suitable model for southern Italy, as well as the proof that the once small town of Giffoni has now become a cultural capital, able to create employment and satellite activities. The Multimedia Valley full operability is expected to have a positive impact on the whole Picentini area - which has risen to a certain fame in recent years, thanks to the Giffoni Festival – with the creation of a major cultural center intended to expand symbolic and physical spaces within the Cittadella del Cinema, which represent the milestone of the entire project.

Such a result marks a victory for the institutional network, and most of all the Municipality of Giffoni Valle Piana, the Province of Salerno, the Campania Region and the Italian Government, which have worked together on this project over the last 16 years.

After the ribbon cutting, the spotlight will be on the 5thedition of “School Movie Cinedù – Film Festival for Schools”. The award ceremony will take place at 11, in the presence of President of the Campania Region Vincenzo De Luca and Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Italian Council Maria Elena Boschi, who will present the trophies to the winning schools.
