Director Gubitosi and the Multimedia Valley Dream: “Our future starts from here”

“The Multimedia Valley will keep together the history of Giffoni Valle Piana and the future of the Giffoni Film Festival. But I prefer to think of the Valley as an area, a region at large. The next edition of the Giffoni Film Festival will be held here and I wish we will be able to welcome up to 5 thousand jurors”. Thus spoke Director Claudio Gubitosi starting the detailed tour of the Multimedia Valley with the journalists, in order to explain them the spirit of the project, its possibilities and goals.

The first 20 million fund was allocated on 19 February 2010, following an agreement between Italian Ministry of Economic Development and the Campania Region. Among other things, the complex includes two movie theatres provided with Dolby Atmos Technology. The second floor of the film library will host a series of cultural and educational projects related to cinema and entertainment in general, while the central section will accommodate a library, a multimedia library, with CDs and DVDs, as well as a reading and reference room.

Last floor will include more rooms, as well as three exhibition halls provided with the latest multimedia technologies, such as a totally touch screen corridor and areas for digital productions and videogames. In a word innovation and creativity at their highest rates.

Giffoni Multimedia Valley is a dream coming true. Its gestation was very long, it almost took fifteen years: “When the first rock was set – explained director Gubitosi – we celebrated it at least seven times. That’s why, when the first pillar was built, and you can imagine how big it was, I rushed to hug it”.

Besides, Giffoni is growing and becoming the capital city of creativity. It’s creating employment and income. There’s a great idea behind it, but there is also someone who strongly believed in this idea. Someone who betted and invested on it: “Our relationship with the institutions – explained director Gubitosi – is fundamental. I am grateful to the Campania Region as well as to those who ruled it in the past and those who are ruling it now. They dared to invest. This means facing up responsibilities, the responsibility to come here in this small town and invest forty million euros. This surely happened because we proved that we know what’s what, we provide great contents and we’re extremely good at doing it. Moreover, it also happened because we’ve focused our business on the four fundamental issues on which I gambled my own life and credibility. These four issues are: employment; deseasonalization, that means proposing many activities throughout the year; internationalization, that means going abroad to take the outside world here to Giffoni; and, finally, the economic income for the local territory".
