Films in competition on July 22

Here are the films in competition on Friday July 22 at the 46th Giffoni Film Festival.


Generator +13 presents FOG IN AUGUST by Kai Wassel (Germany, 2016) on schedule at 10 in Sala Truffaut. The film follows Ernst, a 13-year-old German boy who is sent to a psychiatric hospital when he’s deemed unruly and insolent by Nazi officials.

Screenings go on for Elements +6 jurors at 14.30 in Sala Lumière with MR FROG by Anna Van Der Heide (The Netherlands, 2015), about an apparently regular master who hides a secret: sometimes he turns into a frog; same time but different location for the Elements +10 film, HANG IN THERE, KIDS by Laha Mebow (Taiwan, 2016), on schedule at 14.30 in Sala Alberto Sordi. It’s the story of three kids who are troubled by their own family issues until a very special teacher comes to their aid.

At 14.30 in Sala Truffaut, Generator +16 presents THE VIOLIN TEACHER by Sergio Machado (Brazil, 2015), released in Italy by Academy Two, about the courage to keep chasing your dreams even after failing your goals.

REAL BOY (USA, 2016), a documentary by Californian director Shaleece Haas, is set for screening at GEX DOC section at 14.45 in Sala De Sica. Bennett Wallace is a transgender teenager on a journey to find his voice as a musician. Along the way, he forges a powerful friendship with his idol, Joe Stevens, a celebrated transgender musician with his own demons to fight.

Last but not least are the shorts addressed to the Elements +3 jurors, at 19.00 in Sala Sordi: HIPPO HOP, by Patxi Aguirre (Germany, 2015), I AM NOT A MOUSE, by Evgenia Golubeva (UK, 2015), LILI HAS A GUEST, by Siri Melchior (Denmark, 2015), LITTLE LION PUSTEWIND by Jana Richtmeyer (Germany, 2016), LITTLE SHIMAJIRO by Isamu Hirabayashi (Japan, 2015), MIRIAM’S STRAY DOG by Andres Tenusaar (Estonia, 2015), MOON WOLVES by Nima Yousefi (Sweden, 2016) and MOROSHKA by Polina Minchenok (Russia, 2015).
