Minister Bonafede at Giffoni for the première of Boez, the Rai docu-series on the world of custody on air from 2 September

It touched my heart. I was moved. There’s a strong message of hope in this project and I hope it can be repeated. It’s a significant starting point”. These were Minister of Justice Alfonso Bonafede’s early remarks after attending this afternoon in Sala Blu – Grimaldi Lines a screening preview of the first three episodes of Boez – Andiamo via, a Rai Fiction docu-series by Marco Leopardi and Roberta Cortella, describing the journey/pilgrimage on foot from Rome to Santa Maria di Leuca of six young people under internal and external detention.

The screening was also attended by 5 of the 6 protagonists, all of them sharing a record of criminal offences, as well as the will to change, to leave the past behind and start a new path, a new normal life, at last. Among the attendees there were also Marco Saverio Lo Perfido and Ilaria D’Appollonio. Featuring in the unpublished and vaguely experimental format as the tour guide and the teacher who lead the six protagonists along their real and metaphorical journey that ends 900 kilometres after, in Santa Maria di Leuca, where they are welcomed by the sea as a sign of freedom and potential catharsis.

Rai Fiction chose Giffoni for the première and the importance of such a choice was underlined by Bonafede himself: “I really want to say thanks to Giffoni for this initiative – he said – and to Rai and all the Ministry departments for their hard work that makes a great synthesis of what the public service really is”.

Giffoni Valle Piana Mayor Antonio Giuliano and Giffoni Experience President Piero Rinaldi attended the meeting together with a visibly moved Director Claudio Gubitosi: “Everything beginning here improves the world. The slogan has never worked so well – he declared – Thanks to Rai and to all the people who believed in this project. I also want to say thank you to the Minister for being here with us today and all the Ministry’s departments for their involvement. We’ve created a synergy between all the institutions and public representatives that have given their support to bring life to this project”. Along with the cast and the directors, producers Donatella Palermo, Monica Paolini and Paola Pannicelli as well as Rai Fiction Deputy Director Francesco Zappi also attended the screening.
