CLAUDIO GIOVANNESI

JULY 18th

BIOGRAFIA

Film director, script-writer and musician, Claudio Giovannesi was born in Rome in 1978. He graduated in Modern Literatures in 2002 and worked for Blob editorial team until 2004. He graduated in Film Direction at Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome in 2005. The year 2009 was very rich: he directed his first full-length film, La Casa sulle nuvole, the story of two brothers travelling to Morocco to find their father, followed by the documentary Fratelli d’Italia.

Alì ha gli occhi azzurri (2009) deals with the hard life of two teenagers, Stefano and Nader, in a Roman working-class suburb whereas the documentary Wolf (2013) rebuilds the relationship of a son with the memory of his father, struggling between acceptance and refusal of a common tragedy.

He took part in the collective film 9x10 Novanta in 2014 where he tells, together with other film directors, the long story that has led Italy through cinema with the unique patrimony of images offered by Istituto Luce.

He directed the TV series Gomorra 2 along with Stefano Sollima, Claudio Cupellini and Francesca Comencini and presented Fiore at Quinzaine des Réalisateurs at Cannes Festival 2016, that tells the love desire of a female teenager in prison as well as a feeling that breaks every rule. He has always composed his films’ soundtracks.
