BIOGRAPHY
Designer, illustrator and cartoonist, Gary Baseman has been indicated by Entertainment Weekly magazine as one of the 100 most influential artists in the world of entertainment. Gary Baseman started his career in New York between the second half of the 80s and the early 90's working as an illustrator for The New Yorker, The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Time, Atlantic Monthly and The Los Angeles Times. After returning to Los Angeles, he focused on the exploration of various hybrids between art, fashion, advertising, design, music and cinema. He was soon considered one of the most important representatives of the Californian Pop Surrealist scene. Nonetheless he soon rejected this label preferring the phrase “Pervasive Art” to describe his aesthetics, capable of "blurring the boundary between Fine Art and Commercial Art". His paintings have been exhibited in museum and art galleries across the world and have gained a lot of fans thanks to his vinyl toys, bags, prints and many other mass market products. Besides the Teacher’s Pet series produced by Walt Disney Television Animation and broadcast by ABC in 2000 - 2003, which became a movie in 2004, Gary Baseman has also teamed up with a group of designers creating the visual identity of Cranium a very popular board game in many countries.
