BIOGRAPHY

British actor Sam Claflin was born in Ipswich. He is best known for his portrayal of Finnick Odair in the final three films of the highly successful The Hunger Games franchise (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013), The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 (2014), and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (2015)). Claflin will be among the international guests at the Giffoni Experience 2016, taking place 15 – 24 July in Giffoni Valle Piana, Italy, where he will present the exclusive Italian premiere of his new film Me Before You to the young jury on July 21.

Based on the Jojo Moyes novel of the same title, Me Before You tells the love story of Will Traynor (Claflin), a young, rich banker, whose life changes dramatically after an accident leaves him almost totally paralyzed and in a wheel chair, and his new assistant Lou Clark, (Emilia Clarke from HBO’s hit series “Game of Thrones”), who will turn his life upside down yet again. The film is helmed by first time director Thea Sharrock.

Claflin is a graduate of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. His breakthrough role was the 2010 television mini-series The Pillars of the Earth, based on the Ken Follett novel of the same title, and produced by Ridley and Tony Scott. He went on to play Philip Swift alongside Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz in the fourth film of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011). Claflin has recently finished filming My Cousin Rachel alongside Rachel Weisz, due for release next year. Additional film credits include Love, Rosie (2014), The Riot Club (2014),and Snow White and the Huntsman (2012) in which he played the Prince Charming character William, alongside Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart, and Chris Hemsworth. Claflin recently reprised that role for a cameo in the sequel, The Huntsman: Winter’s War (2016).
