BIOGRAPHY:
British actor Orlando Bloom is the latest star to be added to the lineup of the upcoming Giffoni Experience (17 – 26 July 2015), which hosts 3600 youths from 52 different countries.
The acclaimed actor rose to stardom for his portrayal of Legolas, the elf archer, in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy (The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The Two Towers (2002), and The Return of the King (2003)). Bloom went on to reprise this role in the The Hobbit franchise (The Desolation of Smaug (2013) and The Battle of the Five Armies (2014)), also helmed by Jackson.
Bloom is also well known for his role as Will Turner, alongside Johnny Depp and Keira Knightley in the first three chapters of Gore Verbinski’s Pirates of the Caribbean saga (The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), Dead Man’s Chest (2006), and At World’s End (2007)).Bloom is currently at work on the latest installment of this series, Dead Men Tell No Lies, which is due in theaters in July 2017.
This summer, Bloom will be seen in director Joe Swanberg’s Digging For Fire, which debuted this year at the Sundance Film Festival and costars Anna Kendrick and Sam Rockwell. Bloom will next be seen starring opposite Noomi Rapace, Michael Douglas, John Malkovich, and Toni Collette in Unlocked, an action-thriller directed by Michael Apted. Additionally, he will be seen starring opposite Forest Whitaker in Jérôme Salle’s Zulu which will be released by RADiUS.
Bloom’s other credits include Troy by Wolfgang Petersen (2004), Kingdom of Heaven by Ridley Scott (2005), Elizabethtown by Cameron Crowe (2005), Sympathy for Delicious by Mark Ruffalo (2010), The Three Musketeers by Paul W.S. Anderson (2011), and Zulu by Jérôme Salle (2013). In 2013, Bloom received critical acclaim for his Broadway debut as “Romeo” in William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.”
Bloom was appointed a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in October 2009 in recognition of his commitment to the rights of children around the world. He has supported UNICEF since 2007, when he first visited schools in the remote western districts of Kaski and Chitwan, two of the poorest areas of Nepal. Additionally, he witnessed how UNICEF's water and sanitation programmes benefit local families. Bloom has visited Syria and most recently, traveled to Liberia with UNICEF in March 2015, where he witnessed the efforts of Ebola-affected communities in combatting the deadly virus.
