MARCO SPERONI

Marco Speroni began his artistic career as a painter and then made numerous documentaries with his production company "Officinema" in Parma. In 1995 he directed the short film UN POMERIGGIO D'APRILE, presented at the Venice Film Festival and at the Turin Film Festival. After moving to Rome, in 1996 he won the Solinas Prize for the best screenplay written together with Ivan Cotroneo, from which he made the film  COSA C'ENTRA CON L'AMORE, which will be presented in many international festivals including the Locarno Film Festival (1997). In 2000 he began a long collaboration with RaiUno and Sky Italia for a series of television programmes. In 2011 he made the docu-fiction IN HELL'S HEART, shot in a war zone in the Congo and focused on the conflicts and contradictions of humanitarian organizations. In 2014 he made the documentary ADOLESCENTS MIGRANTS IN BANGLADESH AND ETHIOPIA which tells of some girls fleeing poverty and abuse to end up in the hell of megacities such as Dhaka and Addis Ababa. In 2016 he made 2 GIRLS, a documentary presented and multi-awarded in numerous international festivals. In 2018 he made the documentary OUTSIDE, the story of four ex-convicts unjustly sentenced to death in the USA, Uganda and Ireland and released after years of detention on death row. In 2020 he directed the documentary GENOVA SAN GIORGIO, PONTE ITALIANO with  Giancarlo Giannini. In 2021 he made the documentary A DECLARATION OF LOVE, in which he tells the story of Curtis McCarty, a man who spent 22 years on death row in the Oklahoma State Penitentiary for a crime he never committed. The film is part of the Cinquina of the Nastri D'Argento DOC: Real Cinema 2022. In 2022 he made the documentary SENZA RETE, in which he explores the topic of cyber-bullying among under-age.
