Born in 1967 in Argelès sur mer, Alain Escalle began working as a graphics assistant in video-dance productions such as M FOR MAN, MUSIC AND MOZART by Peter Greenaway. In 1992 he made his first video installation LE RADEAU DE LA MÉDUSE exhibited at the Palais de Tokyo. Two years later his first short, D’APRÈS LE NAUFRAGE, receives from SCAM (Société civile des auteurs multimedia) the Best Digital Opera award. From the beginning Alain Escalle develops his visual research, passing through the history of the world and that of arts. After numerous trips to Japan, he directed LE CONTE DU MONDE FLOTTANT, a dreamlike short film, awarded in many festivals, an apocalyptic and multiple vision of Japan history from samurai to Hiroshima. Alain is interested in collaborations and different disciplines and cross-cutting from live performance (dance, theater, opera) to experimental research in the field of cinema and motion pictures (films, installations, interventions live).

Alain Escalle
