    WHERE ARE YOU HIDING?

by Nadia Abate, Francesco Forti, Victoria Musci (Italia)

    Reasons:

For the original treatment with which the ideas of children have been turned into a poetical and touching film. For having highlighted the importance of color and drawing in the representation of creativity, interpreting the fundamental values of FILA and Forever Young, theme of Giffoni Film Festival 2013.

NIKO 2 - LITTLE BROTHER, BIG TROUBLE

by Kari Juusonen, Jørgen Lerdam (Finlandia/Danimarca/Germania/Irlanda)

    Reasons:

For being able to create a connection with the universe of children and for the strength of the communication. The film knows how to talk to children about grown up issues thanks to colour and feelings conveying a caluable message. The modernity of its message makes the Santa Claus sledge flying over beautiful winter landscapes current.

    AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL AWARD

    ELEMENTS +10

    MIKE SAYS GOODBYE

    by Maria Peters (Paesi Bassi)

    Reasons:

For the friendship role which gives light-heartedness even to the most dramatic situations; for the importance of the mother-child bond and the unrepeatable relationship which resolves apparently desperate situations; for the ability of communicating that “normality" is not the only possible way and that solidarity, love and friendship can be weaved to give back an unthinkable harmony; for having conveyed the message that a society which is respectful of family rights supports people in trouble providing them with appropriate facilities and a dedicated staff, offering useful tools which aim to spur and develop a new happiness; for the role of Mike, who faces even the most difficult problems with fairness and determination trying to understand people, establishing important and rare relationships with people who need to start smiling again.

THE INEVITABLE DEFEAT OF MISTER AND PETE

    by George Tillman Jr. (USA)

    Reasons:

For dealing with several themes such as friendship, family, coming of age, uneasiness, drug addiction, street life, relationships among generations, with intensity and effectiveness keeping the right light-heartedness to represent the young age of the protagonists. The choices of directing, shooting, cinematography and editing fully emphasize the depth of the characters and of the narration leading the audience to a non- predictable but realistic and ending which is food for thought.

    LA BOTTEGA DIGITALE” AWARD

    bottega-digitale-asphalt playgroundGENERATOR +13

    ASPHALT PLAYGROUND

    by Julien Abraham (Francia)

    Reasons:

The realism shown in the film through the editing represents an innovative screenplay which develops a triple story with a triple evolution of the protagonists focusing on the European suburb. The suburb has been represented as a place which is not necessarily ugly and where people are not inevitably ill-fated. The decay can be also psychological and it is possible to choose to do good. The theme of racism is also dealt with in the film.

    ARCA CINEMAGIOVANI AWARD

    GENERATOR +13

THE INEVITABLE DEFEAT OF MISTER AND PETE

    by George Tillman Jr. (USA)

    Reasons:

For telling desperation, poverty and hunger often associated to the poorest countries but also present in the biggest and richest city suburbs. For the theme of friendship, complicity and solidarity through which the protagonists grow and overcome every obstacle, even when the defeat seems to be inevitable.

    LORE

    by Cate Shortland (Germania/Australia/UK)

    Reasons:

For dealing with the horror of World War II from a different perspective and without being rhetorical. For the impressive location of the black forest, usually set of tales for children, here a gloomy and claustrophobic background of Lore and her siblings’ journey.

    LA JAULA DE ORO

    by Diego Quemada-Diez (Messico/Spagna)

    Reasons:

The film LA JAULA DE ORO (The Golden Cage) deals with the immigration issue in Latin America towards the United States. Three teenagers are the protagonists of the film. They live in the slums of Guatemala and their dream is to reach ”the promised land” for a better life. Their journey will be full of obstacles but also full of spectacular and natural landscapes represented in a masterly way by the director – who thanks to breath-taking aerial takes – bring the audience to those wild and picturesque landscapes. The relationship between the characters and nature is emphasized by the SNOW which represents the true magic. When they arrive in the United States and finally see the snow, a new life begins.

    HOLLOW LAND

by Uri & Michelle Kranot (Canada, Danimarca, Francia)
