Biography

Chiara Francini is one of the most loved and appreciated actresses and writers on the Italian scene. She has acted in more than fifty films and fiction, as well as projects both of great popularity and of a more authorial nature. 

For the cinema: "Maschi contro femmine" by F. Brizzi, "Miracleat St. Anna" by Spike Lee, "SoapOpera" by A. Genovesi, "Un altro pianeta" by S. Tummolini (Venice Film Festival, Sundance). Among the fictions: "Tutti pazzi per amore" and "Non dirlo al mio capo", in which she gave life to characters of great impact, Bea in the first series and Perla in the second. 

She has hosted popular programmes such as "Domenica In" together with Pippo Baudo, "Colorado" together with Diego Abatantuono and in-depth programmes such as "Love me Gender" and "Love me stranger", in which she tried to highlight the different forms of love in Italy today. In theatre, her first love, she has been the protagonist of many shows including "Ti ho sposato per allegria" by Natalia Ginzburg and "Due" by L. Miniero, and "Coppia aperta quasi spalancata" by Dario Fo and Franca Rame, " The secret love of Ophelia" by Steven Berkoff, great successes with audiences and critics. 

She is the author of the novels "Non parlare con la bocca piena" (2017), "Mia madre non lo deve sapere" (2018), "Un anno felice" (2019) and "Il cielo stellato fa le fusa" (2020), all published by Rizzoli, which have become best sellers, selling more than 100,000 copies, and are highly appreciated by critics. 

Her most recent works for the cinema include two new films, "Altri padri" by Mario Sesti and "Addio al nubilato" by Francesco Apolloni, both to be released in 2021.

She won the "Guglielmo Biraghi" Award as Revelation Actress of the Year at the 68th Venice International Film Festival and Best Actress at the Rome International Film Festival. 

She is an ambassador for AISM, the Italian association that fights multiple sclerosis, and for Medicinema, a non-profit organisation that works to build cinemas inside hospitals. 

Since October 2018, she has been a columnist for the newspaper La Stampa.
