Biography

Thea Sharrock (London, 1976) is a British theatre director. Daughter of two journalists, she spends her childhood in Kenya and then comes back to London. When she is 9 years old she approaches acting, a passion of hers that she keeps up while growing up. After her graduation she moves to Johannesburg to work as theatre assistant for the Market Theatre, a well known theatre in those years for its attempt at racial integration against apartheid. Then she comes back to the United Kingdom where she works as theatre assistant for the Royal National Theatre.
Since 2000 her first work achievements, starting with the “James Menzies Kitchin Trust Award". In 2001, at just 24, she becomes artistic director of the Southwark Playhouse in London, being the youngest artistic director in British theatre. In 2016 she directs the film “Me Before You”, screened at the 46th edition of Giffoni Film Festival, and in 2020 she directs “The One and Only Ivan”, which premiered at Giffoni Film Festival 2020.
