Biography
Born in Bologna on March 2, 1971. In 1991 he is co-star in the movie "Fratelli e Sorelle" by Pupi Avati. After this he attends the Scuola di Teatro di Bologna where he graduates in 1993, then the Compagnia del Tatro Stabile dell’Arena del Sole taking part in several classical plays ranging from Pirandello to Goldoni. In 1994 a commercial for a well-known ice-cream, directed by Daniele Luchetti, earns him an immediate popularity. Among his films: "Jack Frusciante è uscito dal gruppo" by Enza Negroni, "Piccoli maestri" by Daniele Luchetti, "Ormai è fatta" by Enzo Monteleone (Grolla d’Oro as best actor), "Un uomo perbene" by Maurizio Zaccaro (Grolla d’Oro), "Capitaës de Abril" by Maria de Medeiros, "Come quando fuori piove" by Mario Monicelli, "Radiofreccia" by Luciano Ligabue (David di Donatello, Premio Amidei and Ciak d’Oro), "L’Ultimo bacio" and "Baciami ancora" by Gabriele Muccino, "Saturno contro" and "Le fate ignoranti" by Ferzan Özpetek (Nastro d’Argento 2001, Ciak d’Oro and Globo d’Oro of Foreign Press in Italy), "La stanza del figlio" by Nanni Moretti, "Santa Maradona" by Marco Ponti, "L’Amore ritrovato" by Carlo Mazzacurati, "Romanzo criminale" and "Un viaggio chiamato amore" by Michele Placido (Coppa Volpi as best actor at the 59th Mostra di Venezia), "La vita facile" by Lucio Pellegrini. In 2006 he goes back on stage under the direction of Sergio Castellitto with "Il Dubbio" (Pulitzer Prize for Drama) by John Patrick Shanley. In 2012, again on stage, in the lucky play "Furioso Orlando" and in the 2013/14 and 2017/18/19 seasons in "Giocando con Orlando" and "Giocando con Orlando Assolo", based on the epic poem Orlando Furioso by Ludovico Ariosto, adapted and directed by Marco Baliani. In seasons 2014/15/16: "Decamerone vizi, virtù, passioni", based on the Decamerone by Giovanni Boccaccio, adapted and directed by Marco Baliani. He works both in Italy and France, where he is founder of the Stephen Greep production company. He was awarded honors of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture. In France, he worked on several films: "La faute á Fidel" by Julie Gavras, "Les brigades du tigre" by Jérôme Cornuau, "Un baiser s’il vous plaît" by Emmanuel Mouret, "Les deux mondes" by Daniel Cohen, "Le jeune fille et les loups" by Gilles Legrand, "Baby blues" by Diane Bertrand, "Je ne dis pas non" by Iliana Lolic, "Nous trois" by Renaud Bertrand, "Tous le soleils" by di Philippe Claudel, the tv series "Mafiosa" by Pierre Leccia for Canal+. In 2013 he debuted in direction with the short film "Io non ti conosco", produced by Yoox Group, in which he stars too (Silver Ribbon 2014 as best debuting director). In 2014 he works on three different short films for Peugeot Italia: Ultimo Tango, Parking e Autostop. Again for Peugeot in 2015 he directs and interprets three Virtual Reality videos for the Oculus technology and in 2016 the webseries #Sensationdrive.
Latest works: the TV series "Il clan dei camorristi", in theaters "Viaggio sola" by Maria Sole Tognazzi, "L’Arbitro" by Paolo Zucca, "La nostra terra" by Giulio Manfredonia, "Veloce come il vento" by Matteo Rovere (Silver Ribbon 2016, FICE 2016 Award as actor of the year, David di Donatello), "Fortunata" by Sergio Castellitto, "Made in Italy" by Luciano Ligabue, "A casa tutti bene" by Gabriele Muccino, "Il Campione" by Leonardo D'Agostini. For Sky Italia the series "1992" and ts sequels "1993" and "1994" under the direction of Giuseppe Gagliardi, of which he is creator and interpreter. Again for Sky Italia, in collaboration with HBO "The young Pope" by Paolo Sorrentino.
In 2016 he receives the Gian Maria Volonté Award.
