JOHNSON CHENG
Johnson Cheng is a New York City-based Chinese-American writer/director hailing from the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County. After receiving his bachelor's degree in international relations, he joined Columbia University's M.F.A. Film Directing/Screenwriting program. Most recently, he wrote and directed IRON HANDS (铁手), a U.S.-China co-production which acts as a prelude to his feature film in development. His films have screened at festivals such as the Tribeca Film Festival, Palm Springs International Shortfest, and the Asian American International Film Festival. Johnson began his career as an intern at PIXAR, and is credited on feature films such as MONSTERS UNIVERSITY and COCO. He also worked as a Story Editor on THE BOOK OF MOJO, an Asst. Editor on Reel FX's THE BOOK OF LIFE, and an Asst. Editor on DreamWorks Animation's KUNG FU PANDA 3, the first animated co-production between the U.S. and China. He has taught filmmaking at Columbia University, and has been invited to the Telluride Film Festival Student Symposium and the Emerging Filmmakers Lab presented by the Smithsonian Institute and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Johnson is a member of both the Motion Picture Editors Guild and the Brooklyn Filmmakers Collective Writers Workshop.
