Born in 1972 in Tabriz (Iran), lives in Cologne (Germany). In 1985, during the first Gulf War for which he was to be forcibly recruited as a child soldier, he fled from his home country to Germany without his parents. He studied Social Sciences and Electronic Media Design at the University of Hanover, and Visual Communication at the University of Kassel. He directed the documentaries "Africa-Mayibuye" (2002), "Culture Clan" (2003), "Lost Children" (2005, which was co-directed along with Oliver Stoltz and screened at the Berlin Film Festival 2005), "Iran: Elections 2009" (2010), "The Green Wave" (2010, which was screened at the Sundance Film Festival 2011). In 2009 he made the fiction feature film "Salami Aleikum". In 2014 Ali Samadi directed "Pettson and Findus - A Little Nuisance, a Great Friendship", selected at Giffoni Film Festival 2014.
