Director's statement
"The main theme of the film is Friendship. Sometimes conflicts exist between even the closest of friends, and it’s only through understanding and accepting each other’s differences that we can overcome these conflicts. Coconut was ideal for this because I found the core group of Coconut, Oscar and Matilda, to be a wonderful, tight-knit group but in all their adventures I felt that their friendship hadn’t been really truly tested. That’s what I wanted to achieve with this film. Taking them out of their comfort zone into a brand-new land was the perfect setting for this, allowing us to bring in new characters and also new threats. The second theme of the film is dealing with the new and unfamiliar - For the kids, travelling to the Summer Camp is a huge adventure and although some of the kids rally against the water dragons, our heroes are more open minded and curious about this new species. The adults however are more reluctant to accept the water dragons, seeing them as pests and eventually, a threat. It's only when they are confronted by a real menace that they realize that they have a lot more in common than they believed".
