SAM CLAFLIN

JULY 23

Biography

Born in 1986, with a diploma from the Academy of Music and Dramatic Art of London, Sam Claflin began his rise to success in 2010 playing Richard in "The Pillars of the Earth", the TV series based on the novel with the same name by the British writer Ken Follet and produced by Ridley and Tony Scott. His cinematic debut, however, dates back to the following year alongside Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz in the fourth film in the series "Pirates of the Caribbean - On Stranger Tides" (2011) in which he interprets the missionary Philip. He then plays Prince William in "Snow White and the Huntsman" (2012), alongside the 'evil queen' Charlize Theron, the 'stepdaughter' Kristen Stewart and the 'hunter' Chris Hemsworth. Claflin then finds a place in the heart of the general public with the Hunger Games saga, in which he plays the heroic and arrogant Finnick Odair from the second instalment, "Hunger Games: Catching Fire", to the final episode, "Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2".

After the romantic comedy "Love, Rosie" by Christian Ditter and the generational film "The Riot Club" by Lone Scherfig, both in 2014, Claflin then returned to the role of Prince William for a cameo in the prequel/spin-off "The Huntsman - Winter's War" (2016). The same year he presented at the 46th edition of the Giffoni Film Festival the premiere of "Me Before You", in which he stars alongside actress Emilia Clarke, the ‘Queen of Dragons’ of "Game of Thrones". He has several major upcoming projects such as Jennifer Kent's psychological thriller, "The Nightingale", set in 19th-century Tasmania, which follows the story of a young woman seeking revenge for the murder of her family. The film will be released later this year.

Furthermore, it was recently announced that Claflin will star in the British independent feature film "The Corrupted", which will be released in 2019. Based on actual events, the film is set in London. It is written by Nick Moorcroft, directed by Ron Scalpello and with the participation of Timothy Spall, Hugh Bonneville, Charlie Murphy and Noel Edwards. 2018 will be another exciting for Claflin, with a selection of notable projects in the pipe line. Sam will next be seen in Baltasar Kormákur’s drama "Adrift", alongside Shailene Woodley. Based on a true survival story, the film concerns a couple’s chance encounter that leads them first to love, and then on the adventure of a lifetime as they face one of the most catastrophic hurricanes in recorded history. The film was released in late June. Sam was last seen in the screen adaption of R.C.Sheriff’s WWI classic play "Journey's End", as Captain Stanhope. Directed by Saul Dibb, Sam leads the cast of Asa Butterfield, Paul Bettany and Toby Jones.
