“GIFFONI MACEDONIA”: THE SIXTH EDITION FULL OF SCREENINGS AND WORKSHOPS, AND THE OFFICIAL VISIT TODAY OF UNDERSECRETARY LUCIA BORGONZONI

Until 12 October a delegation of 20 Italian jurors will be in Skopje to take part in the festival inspired by the 2018 Giffoni Film Festival theme: “Aqua”. Today marks the official visit of the Cultural Heritage Undersecretary Lucia Borgonzoni.


Not just cinema, but art at 360°. The program of the 6th edition of the "Giffoni Macedonia Youth Festival", which will be held in Skopje until 11 October, ranges from screenings and Q&As, to intense workshops dedicated to the various subjects: theater, music, dance, animation, photography , creative writing and much more.

The event will see the official participation, today, of the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage Lucia Borgonzoni, together with the director of Giffoni Experience Claudio Gubitosi. Undersecretary Borgonzoni will meet the Minister of Culture of Macedonia, Asaf Ademi, will hold a conference at the Department of Italian Studies of the University of Skopje, and will participate in the activities of the Festival, meeting jurors, masterclassers and guests.

Co-producer of the event, together with Giffoni Experience, the Macedonian Film Agency directed by Gorjan Tozija, and organized by the "Planet M" association helmed by Darko Basheski and his team, led by Dea Krstevska - with the support of the Embassy of Italy in Skopje, and in particular the Ambassador Carlo Romeo. The president of Giffoni Experience, Piero Rinaldi, also left for Macedonia, together with Marco Cesaro, general coordinator of the project, sponsored by the Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities, and Alessandro Masiello, of the Giffoni Experience team. Marta Frasca, of the Jury Office, and Maria Pia Montuori, head of the Hospitality Office, will be accompanying the 20 selected gilders and masterclassers to be part of this international jury. The event launched yesterday, 7 October at the Millenium Cinema with the screening On the Trail of My Father by Marco Segato. The Jolefilm and Rai Cinema film was nominated for a David di Donatello in 2017 .

The Jurors – aged between 15 and 25 – is composed of Teresa Barrella, Giulia Celletti, Claudia Cuciniello, Martina Genovese, Michele Landi, Orlando Maffongelli, Gianni Mirabello, Gabriele Nappo, Elisa Nicoletti, Federica Pipino, Aurelia Santoro, Giulia Troisi, Tommaso Turco, Sofia Galderisi, Piera Procida, Pietro Rapuano, Giuseppina Lambiasi, Miriam Valentino, Giulia Citro and Aya Ftissi.
Together with other children and young people from various countries, they will vote for the best works in competition (feature films, short films and documentaries) taking part in debates, workshops and master classes.

Three competitive sections for jurors divided according to their age. Juniors, Cadets, and Seniors. The youngest ones will see five films in the Cinemateca in Skopje: “Freckles” (Mare di Grano) by Fabrizio Guarducci, “Summer 93” byCarla Simon, “Supa Modo” by Likarion Wainaina, “Los Bando” by Christian Lo and “The Witch Hunters” by Rasko Miljkovic. The Cadets, will watch movies at the MKC Cinema Frosina, and their program includes screenings of “The Piano for The Two”, “I kill Giants” by Andres Walter, “Meerkat Moonship” by Hanneke Schutte, “Old Boys” by Toby Macdonald and “This Crazy Heart” by Marc Rothemund. Lastly, the Seniors, will see “L’animale” by Katharina Muckstein, “Sadie” by Megan Griffiths, “Imperfect Age” byUlisse Lendaro, “The Pigeon” byi Banu Sivaci and “When the trees Fall” by Marysia Nikitiuk, and various short movies.

Three Italian short movies, “Bismillah”, by Alessandro Grande, “Enfants Perdus”, by Ermanno Dantini and “Uproar” by Ludovico Di Martino, alongside the Macedonian films “Good Night” by Sergej Sarchevski, “Mishko” by Hanis Bagashov, “Victor dreams of losing” by Loen Ristov, “Blacky and faulty” by Marko Dzambazoski and “Award”, by Lidija Mojsovska. Three Croatian films, “Into the blue” by Antoneta Alamat Kusijanovic, and “Shush!” and “Auf wiedersehen”, made by a group of young authors. “Timmy” by Lyubo Yonchev is a Bulgarian short, and “Bike bird”, is a Norwegian production by Odveig Klyve and Kari Klyve-Skaug.
