ALESSANDRO SIANI: “GIFFONI IS AS MAGIC AS A FRANK CAPRA’S FILM”

Alessandro Siani came back to the Citadel of Cinema with a declaration of love for Giffoni Film Festival: “Being here is just like being in a film by Frank Capra, whose name could possibly be ‘Once upon a time in Giffoni’. The magic air we breathe here is so powerful that puts us on standby from this rotten world. I feel like being in one of those books that amazes me every time I read it. This town tailored for children – said the actor – is part of a cultural project through which the Campania region aims at enhancing the territory and paying attention to childhood. That’s why, for example, I am also very happy about the reopening of the amusements park Edenlandia. Director Gubitosi is gorgeous”.

The Neapolitan artist also introduced his upcoming project, “Il giorno più bello del mondo”, that will see him behind the camera for his fourth time as film director: “The shooting will start the 1st October and the film is set for release in movie theatres during Christmas 2019. Shootings will take place in Naples, Rome and France”.

Afterwards, Siani met the jurors staging an improv show: he is bounded to the Festival by a special friendship with Director Gubitosi, that he considers the equivalent of Steve Jobs for what concerns cinema. He sat down with the jurors to ask them questions, accepted the jam croissant they offered him, hid himself behind the sofa pretending to faint and involving everyone in his humorous remarks.

While laughing together, Siani also told the jurors how difficult the beginning of his career was and encouraged them to keep following their dreams: “Don’t be afraid of kicking down doors, you deserve it”. Some jurors mentioned prejudices that people still have against southern Italy, which reminded him the intolerance unfairly addressed to immigrants: “We’re bounded by something which is even stronger than what splits us. We are an example of this. We spent 50 minutes together. We’ve had a great time. And we’ve had it together”.
