The film, a sequel of the box office hit “Mamma Mia!”, is a Legendary Entertainment and Universal production, set to hit Italian theaters on September 6. The film will be distributed by Universal Pictures International Italy
Ten years after “Mamma Mia!”, which grossed over 600 Milion dollars worldwide, it’s time to go back to the Greek Island of Kalokairi with “Mamma Mia! Here we go again”. On July 25 actor Jeremy Irvine – who plays Sam – will present the exclusive premiere at the 48th edition of the Giffoni Film Festival to the International jurors and giffoners in attendance. The film, produced by Legendary Entertainment and Universal and distributed in Italy by Universal Pictures International Italy, is set for release in Italy on September 6.
The musical, with music by Abba, will once again take place on the Greek island of Kalokairi and will see the return of the original cast, Oscar winners Meryl Streep and Colin Firth, Julie Walters Christine Baranski, Amanda Seyfried, Dominic Cooper Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård alongside a new generation of actors such as Lily James, “The Darkest hour”, “Cinderella”, “Baby Driver”, and Jeremy Irvine (“War horse”, “The Woman in black 2: Angel of Death”) as a young Donna and Sam.
The film also stars Alexa Davies (“X+Y - A Brilliant Young Mind”), Jessica Keenan Wynn (“Beautiful a Broadway”), Josh Dylan (“Allied”) and Hugh Skinner (“Kill Your Friends”). “Mamma Mia! Here we go again” was produced by Gary Goetzman and Judy Craymer, and is directed by Ol Parker. The film is based on a story by Catherine Johnson, Richard Curtis and Ol Parker(“Marigold Hotel”). Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, the two male components of Abba, oversaw the musical part and were executive produced alongside Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Phyllida Lloyd, Richard Curtis and Nicky Kentish Barnes.
British actor Jeremy Irvine, 28, was born in Gamlingay, Cambridgeshire and attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, before being chosen by Steven Spielberg as the lead in the 2011 film “War Horse”. The actor went on to star in the acclaimed independent movie “Now is good” with Dakota Fanning and in “The railway man” alongside Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth. His other credits include “The World Made straight” “Stonewall”, “Fallen”, “The Woman in Black 2 – Angel of Death” and “Beyond the Reach”.
