“MAYA THE BEE 2 – THE HONEY GAMES”: THE ITALIAN PREMIERE DEDICATED TO THE GIFFONI 2018 JURORS

Put out your feelers: the little ones’ friend is going to arrive, flying in the sky of the 48th edition of the Giffoni Film Festival. Monday, July 23 will be the turn of the Italian premiere of “Maya the Bee 2 – The Honey Games”. In Italian theaters, the animated film will arrive on October 18, 2018, distributed by Koch Media.

Made entirely with computer graphics just like the hit TV series, the film is directed by Noel Cleary (Blinky Bill the Movie), Sergio Delfino (animator for The LEGO Movie) and Alexs Stadermann, (Bambi II, Tarzan II and supervisor of The Lion King 1½). Behind the characters’ animations are the German productions of  Studio 100 Media (animations of Wickie und die starken Männer and Mia and Me) and the Australian ones of Studio B Animation, with over 216 Thousand drawings used to put the work together.

Jurors and giffoners will thus be transported to the hottest and most animated beehive in the world: that of Maya.

Maya’s beehive is in turmoil. The honey summer supply is finished and from Buzztropolis arrives  an ambassador of the Empress with an important message for Queen Beatrix. Does she maybe want to announce that Maya’s beehive will finally be invited to sign up for the Honey Games? Unfortunately, the initial enthusiasm turns off when the messenger informs the inhabitants of the Poppy Meadow that they are not allowed to participate in the Games and that, upon request of the Empress herself, they must donate half of their already poor summer harvest to help nourish the athletes of the Games. Although unwillingly, Queen Beatrix accepts the imperial order even though she knows that this means she will not have enough honey for her bees to face winter. Maya, with her proverbial inability to accept injustice, decides to disobey her queen and go to Buzztropolis to confront the Empress. To accompany her in this long and dangerous journey is her trusty and faithful friend Willi. Arrived in the thriving Buzztropolis, the little bee will discover a world completely unknown, and will have to deal with characters never met before like Violet, an envious bee who hardly hides her contempt for Maya and who will try in every way to push her away from her friend Willi. Maya’s heartfelt appeal to participate in the Games in the presence of the Empress, will culminate with an uproarious accident that will make things even worse. Deeply offended, and determined to give Maya a lesson, the Empress proposes an agreement: Maya’s beehive will take part in the Honey Games, but if they lose the games they will have to give away not only their summer honey supply, but also the entire harvest. With an unusual and extravagant group of insects by her side, Maya will race in several games and will learn the true sense of teamwork. Fortunately, her best friend Willi, the adorable and awkward ants Arnie and Barney and her trusty adviser Flip the cricket, will always be by her side. Will Maya save her beehive?

After conquering entire generations of children since 1980, when the first TV series landed in Italy, Maya the Bee returns to the small screen with a new TV series (on Nickjr, and Rai Yoyo) and onto the big screen with a feature film full of innovations and with a new layout. From October 18, in fact, children of all ages will have fun with Maya the Bee 2 – The Honey Games, the new adventure of Maya and her funny long-time friends along with new characters with whom she will engage in a challenge to the final blow of pollen that will teach her the true sense of teamwork.
