The Giffoners, like all human beings, are made up of 70% of water.
But what is water?
We are born in amniotic fluid, which is mostly produced by the amount of water the mother drinks during her pregnancy and will later contribute to the breastfeeding.
Water can create; it can destroy, it can generate life, give life but also bring death.
Water is life; it is the sustenance for the entire planet and its inhabitants.
Water washes and purifies, and its cathartic value melts the crusts of horror of the world.
We can immerse ourselves in water, the cradle of humankind and the warm bath that relieves our everyday pains.
Water is the protagonist of art.
Water is the metaphor of existence.
Water is powerful and possessing it means power, because the lack of water brings drought, drought leads to hunger, hunger to misery and misery to war.
That is why water is as fundamental as a mother who feeds her baby, that teaches the baby about love, and as a father that guides them and shows them which direction they should go in life. .
Enjoying water is nothing to be taken for granted.
We are so used to the idea that water is there, and will always be, that we never think about the possibility of losing it altogether.
And this is where a fundamental question arises: What can we do to fight the wasting of water?
Faced with such a question, Giffoni Experience felt the need to find a solution.
Giffoni Experience was not born 48 years ago as an environmentally charged organization- however having dedicated almost immediately itself to social issues it dedicated the core of its mission to getting out of each youngster the maximum of their potential so to turn them into the best version of themselves.
An old Masai saying goes: “treat the earth well, it is not the heritage of our fathers but the loan of our children”. This is where the Giffoni Experience, comes in to play, it is never a deaf ear to the shouting youth who have the right to live their life made up of water, air and earth with joy.
Giffoni's task in 2018 is to bring global attention to the inestimable value of water through the arts, because it is clear to all how much art has changed and influenced society in the course of human history.
Every one of its expressions has touched Millions of hearts and changed humanity: some songs have marked an era, certain stories have accompanied the youth throughout their coming of age journeys; there are films that have contributed to shaping the visual imagery of the whole world, colorful street shows that have aroused the emotion of their audiences and have brought to light ancient and contemporary cultures, near and far.
Art has always been an amplifier of strong social themes.
For the next three years the Giffoni Experience will rely on all forms of art to send the strongest messages to current and future generations.
Water, Air and Earth are the three key elements chosen as the themes of the next three years of Giffoni, both as the Experience and as the Festival.
Its purpose is to promote all artistic expressions to children, by working on the common conscience and bringing new ideas and food for thought to their attention. .
But it is also to protect their world, sensitizing them to keep it as something that belongs to them, their precious treasure.
